Two-day hands-on developer program introducing experienced Web3 builders to advanced smart contract development on Polkadot Hub and cross-chain application development with XCM. The sessions progressed from building Rust and ink! smart contracts to connecting contracts and applications across Polkadot parachains.
Create a practical learning environment where existing Web3 developers could move from familiar single-chain smart contract development into Polkadot's multi-environment and interoperable development model.
The two-day program introduced developers to Rust and ink! smart contracts on Polkadot Hub before progressing into XCM and cross-chain application development. Day one focused on contract architecture, development tooling, optimization, and interoperability between Solidity and Rust-based contracts. Day two introduced XCM and gave participants practical experience executing cross-chain transactions and transferring assets between connected chains. The broader goal was to help developers see beyond isolated smart contracts and begin designing applications that can compose across multiple blockchain environments.
The event demonstrated how much more effective advanced blockchain education becomes when participants can immediately experiment with the concepts being introduced.
The workshop showed that developers understand advanced blockchain concepts more effectively when they can immediately test them in their own environments. Having participants code along made the XCM session particularly effective: instead of treating interoperability as an architectural concept, they executed real cross-chain transactions and observed asset transfers themselves. The sessions also reinforced that Solidity and Rust do not need to be competing development paths. Introducing both within Polkadot Hub gave developers a broader toolkit for designing applications and choosing the appropriate environment for different components.
